About Nordic Box
Our mission is to showcase Nordic Artisans to the world through vending machines, in popular tourist locations, to give tourists and visitors access to artisinal products they would otherwise miss out on. We have partnered with a wide variety of handcrafted artisans from the Nordics to give you, our customers, a completely new experience!
How it started:
A friend of mine was visiting from Australia to Norway and asked me what souvenir she should buy that's typical Norwegian, or a useful product from Norway and I was coming up short. She also wanted gifts for her mum and dad that were made in Norway. We looked around all the souvenir shops in Oslo, sports shops, everywhere I could think of, and had a really hard time finding something to match what she wanted. The stores were filled with low quality products, that weren't made in Norway. She ended up purchasing a pair of Marius pattern socks, but they weren't even made in Europe!
How it developed:
So when my business partner and I were in a marketing meeting going through her companies new website layout, I started throwing out ideas on a "Norwegain Box" of products handcrafted in Norway that you could subscribe to each month. This seemed exessive and didn't fit the bill of what my friend had been looking for. Both myself and my business partner own made in Norway businesses, and thought there had to be a better way. So I said, let's sell a "Norwegian Box" to tourists! And we left it there for the day. She then calls me the next morning "let's put it in a vending machine, at the airport!" One phone call later and we had a meeting with Avinor to discuss a pilot project at the Oslo International Airport. We launched in December 2023 with our first Norwegain Box to an amazing response.
What was born:
Norwegian Box was born! We then thought "but there's a lot of amazing handcrafted products in all the Nordics that tourists struggle to find to be able to purchase. Hence a rebrand to Nordic Box!
How we met:
We (Anne-Line and Courtney) met in Sigdal, the home of Nordic Box, on Anne-Line's alpaca farm. I (Courtney) would regularly drive past the farm on the way to my family cabin and have always loved alpaca wool for it's incredibly warm and soft, natural properties. So when the chance arose to meet Anne-Line I raced up to the farm for a meeting. We hit it off straight away and couldn't stop the flow of ideas for products from alpaca wool and hides (Courtney being a leather artisan). After working together on a number of small projects, we came up with the idea for Nordic Box. I moved my company and workshop up to Anne-Lines and we have been working like crazy ever since!
